Synopsis

The true meaning of folding chairs

A big-city event planner (played by an extremely confident clipboard) has never met a schedule they couldn’t colour-code. Then a snowstorm strands them in their small hometown the very week of the local fan con.

The chairs aren’t set up. The badge printer is jammed. The only one who can fix it is the gruff-but-lovable Badge Maker, who has opinions about lanyards. With the help of a mysterious, rainbow-hemmed stranger in a knit hat and a town full of people who show up early and stay late, our planner learns what every small-town con already knows.

It was never about the chairs. It was about who stays to fold them.

Intermission: the fireplace

Every holiday movie has a scene where someone stares into a fire and Realises Something. Here’s yours. Six seconds of crackle, then a gentle glow.

The fireplace is cold. Somebody fix that.

Hot cocoa, small-town style

Makes one big mug. Or two medium mugs and a friendship.

You’ll need

  • 1 mug of milk (any kind you like)
  • 2 spoonfuls of cocoa powder
  • 1–2 spoonfuls of sugar, to taste
  • A tiny pinch of salt
  • A drop of vanilla (optional)
  • Something on top (optional, encouraged)

Method

  1. Warm the milk in a small pot over a low heat. Don’t let it boil.
  2. In your mug, stir the cocoa, sugar and salt with a splash of the warm milk until it’s a smooth paste.
  3. Pour in the rest of the milk, stirring. Add the vanilla. Careful, it’s hot.
  4. Add your topping. Hold the mug with both hands, like you’re in a holiday movie.
  5. Sit in a folding chair. Look out a window. Realise Something.
  6. Volunteer at the next con. Join The Crew

Come home for the con.

Whatever you celebrate this winter, there’s a seat for you. Usually a folding one. The Crew sets them up, welcomes everyone in and stays to fold them when it’s over.
